Is sending a request the same as booking?
No. A request tells WC Hobby Herd what you want and gives them everything needed to answer it in one go. The date is not yours until it has been confirmed and the deposit is paid.
What happens after I send the request?
You get an email straight back with a reference number and a copy of everything you entered, so you have your own record of it. The request goes to WC Hobby Herd with your own email address set as the reply address, so a reply comes back to you directly.
Can I give a second choice of date?
Yes. Give a first choice and a backup, and both are sent through together, so the request can be answered in one reply rather than two.
How far in advance should we book?
We recommend booking 2-3 weeks in advance, especially for weekends and summer events. Popular dates may fill sooner, so the earlier you reach out, the better! Last-minute requests are always welcome and will be accommodated when possible.
How far do you travel?
Dodge County and 20 miles from West Concord
Can I pay on this website?
No. There is no checkout here and nothing is charged when you send a request. If your date is confirmed, the deposit is arranged directly: cash, check or Venmo.
How much is the deposit, and what happens if we cancel?
A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your date and will be applied toward your total event cost. The remaining balance is due on or before the event date. We understand that plans can change. Your booking deposit is non-refundable, as your date and time are reserved specifically for your event. Cancellations made less than 7 days before the event may be subject to an additional cancellation fee. Weather-related cancellations will be handled separately, with the safety and comfort of our llamas and guests always being our priority.
How do we pay the rest?
We accept cash, check or Venmo.
I do not know all the venue answers. Should I still send the form?
Yes. Where you are not certain, say so rather than guessing. Not knowing is a useful answer, because it names the one thing to check before the day; a guess that turns out to be wrong is found out at the gate.
Why does the form ask so much about the venue?
Because a llama arrives in a stock trailer behind a pickup. Gate width, turning room, the surface underfoot, the walk from the trailer and what else is happening on site all decide whether a visit works, and every one of them is easier to answer at a kitchen table than in a driveway with the engine running.
How much space do you need?
We don't need a huge amount of space! A safe, open grassy area is ideal, with enough room for the llamas and guests to comfortably interact, take photos, and walk around. The area should be away from vehicle traffic and other animals. If you're unsure whether your space will work, just ask — we're happy to help determine if it's a good fit. Llamas are gentle on property and have soft padded feet rather than hooves, making them suitable for most surfaces. They may graze lightly on grass or weeds during their visit. Any waste is cleaned up promptly and removed from your property. We carefully manage the llamas around landscaping and avoid flower beds or delicate areas whenever possible. If you have specific concerns, we're happy to plan the setup with you in advance.
Will llamas come indoors?
No.
Do you need anything from us on the day?
All we require is a suitable space such as a grassy yard or a driveway large enough to safely accommodate the llamas and trailer.
How many llamas come to a visit?
We bring 2–4 of our well-trained llamas directly to your event in a specialized trailer and provide everything needed for a fun, interactive experience.
Who handles the llamas while they are here?
WC Hobby Herd owners or experienced handlers are always present and remain responsible for handling the llamas throughout your event.
Can guests pet the llamas?
Participants are welcome to interact with the llamas in a variety of ways — including petting, feeding, hugging, walking alongside them, and taking plenty of photos — all with guidance from our handlers.
Can guests feed the llamas?
Guests are welcome to feed the llamas treats provided by WC Hobby Herd. For the health and safety of our llamas, we ask that no outside food or treats be given to them.
Do the llamas spit?
Llamas can spit, but it is rare and typically only occurs if they feel threatened or during feeding competition. Our handlers are experienced in reading llama behavior and take proactive steps to prevent these situations. Warning signs are easy to recognize, and interactions are carefully managed to ensure a safe and positive experience.
How do llamas react to dogs or other pets?
For the safety and comfort of our animals, dogs and other pets are not permitted in the event area during the visit. Llamas can become stressed around unfamiliar animals, which may create an unsafe situation for everyone involved. We kindly require that all pets are kept indoors or securely away from the event space. This requirement is also outlined in our event agreement.
Are llamas safe around small children?
Yes. Our llamas are highly socialized and regularly interact with participants of all ages. They are known for their calm, gentle nature, making them a great fit for family-friendly events and community gatherings.
What are some interesting facts about llamas?
Llamas have nearly 360-degree vision, allowing them to see their surroundings without turning their heads. They are much less likely to spook than animals like horses due to their strong awareness and calm temperament. Llamas have soft padded feet rather than hooves, which makes them gentle on most surfaces. And they do not have upper front teeth, so biting is not part of their behavior.
What about allergies?
Our visits may include exposure to llamas, hay, grass, dust and animal feed. If you or a guest has known allergies or sensitivities, please let us know before the event. While we'll do our best to accommodate, WC Hobby Herd cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment.
Are there any risks involved?
While our llamas are well-trained and gentle, all animal interactions carry some inherent risk. By hosting an event, the client agrees to assume responsibility for all attendees and acknowledges these risks. Full details are outlined in our event agreement, including safety expectations and required cooperation during the visit.
What happens if it rains, or if it is very hot?
Because the safety and comfort of our animals and guests come first, WC Hobby Herd reserves the right to postpone or cancel an event due to thunderstorms, extreme heat, high winds, unsafe travel conditions, or other severe weather. We will monitor the forecast and communicate with you as your event approaches. If WC Hobby Herd determines an event cannot safely take place, your deposit will be transferred to a rescheduled date or refunded if rescheduling is not possible. If a customer chooses to cancel when we determine conditions are safe to proceed, our standard cancellation policy will apply.
What do you need for a photo shoot?
We just need a safe, open area with enough room for the llamas, guests and photographer. A grassy outdoor area is ideal. WC Hobby Herd will provide and handle the llamas. You provide the photographer or take your own photos. If you have a specific theme or setup in mind, let us know ahead of time so we can help make sure it will work safely with the llamas.
Where in a wedding day do llamas fit?
Our llamas can be a fun and memorable addition at several points throughout your wedding day! Popular options include cocktail hour, guest arrival, wedding-party photos, family photos, or as a surprise for your guests. We'll work with you to find a time and location that fits smoothly into your wedding-day schedule.
Can we take photos and post them?
Absolutely! We love photos, and guests are welcome to take as many as they'd like during their visit. If you share your photos on social media, we'd love for you to tag WC Hobby Herd so we can see and share in the fun, too. We also love capturing special moments from our events to share on our social media and promotional pages. Guests may be asked to sign a photo waiver before participating. We will always respect anyone who prefers not to be photographed.
Do you carry insurance?
Yes, we carry liability insurance.
Do you do fundraisers, and how does the money work?
Yes! We love supporting local schools, teams, organizations and community groups. WC Hobby Herd offers a special fundraiser/community rate for qualifying events. Rather than taking a percentage of the money raised, we charge a flat fee for our llama visit. Your organization can then raise funds through photos, donations, tickets or other activities, and the money you raise stays with your organization. Contact us with your fundraiser details and we'll help determine an option that works best for your event.
Do you visit senior living communities and care homes?
Senior living and nursing home visits are some of our favorite outings. Our llamas provide a unique opportunity for residents to interact with them through petting, feeding treats, taking photos and simply enjoying their company. We're happy to work with your facility to plan a visit that is comfortable, accessible and enjoyable for residents.
Can you come to a school?
Yes! We love visiting schools and youth programs. Llama visits can be a fun, hands-on experience where students can meet the llamas, learn about their care and personalities, pet them, take photos and interact with them. We're happy to work with your school to create a visit that fits your group, space and schedule.
Our school or church needs paperwork. What can you provide?
Yes. We carry liability insurance, and we're happy to work with your school or organization on what it needs.
